 | 5th Jun 1975 to 10th Mar 2010 | Multiple Units Nationwide - 4
A fourth selection of multiple unit shots from around Britain. I must admit, I didn't realise just how many pictures I had taken of DMUs and EMUs. There must have been several hundred that I didn't even bother to scan onto the computer and we have here 4 collections of my better efforts! A couple of reasonably up to date ones are included as well.

 | 1st Jan 1984 to 2nd Jun 2010 | Heavy Freight - 3
A third selection of heavy freight locos, principally from the 1990s. It surprised me, somewhat when putting together this collection, how relatively few pictures I have of 58s. Whether it was a case of familiarity or whether I just didn't like the design (which I don't) I can't say, although I did think that I had a picture of each one. Just shows how wrong you can be. There are a few here, but certainly nowhere near as many as I would expect. So once again, it's 56s and 60s to the fore with just a few makeweights!

 | 8th Aug 1970 to 2nd Jun 1995 | New Street Variety - 4
A fourth selection from that dingy cavern that passes for Birmingham's premier railhead. I still use the train on occasions to get into Birmingham and just can't find anything worthy of photographing these days. At least there is a selection of locos here including a couple that you might not expect.

 | 28th Jul 2010 | Severn Valley 2010
Wednesday 28 July 2010 wasn't a particularly bright day and not therefore conducive to good photography. Catherine and I had decided a further visit to the preserved line was long overdue so we decided to brave the weather anyway. These few pictures are the result. Not the greatest but typical of the line at this time. Passenger numbers were reasonable, but a bit down on what we had expected.

 | 9th May 1970 to 11th May 1993 | Type 2 Workhorses - 2
Another selection of pictures of Type 2s. As before, mainly Class 31s with a few 24s and 25s to make up the numbers. One or two preserved examples and the geographical spread is Exeter to York.
|
 | 1st Jan 1973 to 31st Dec 2007 | Preserved Steam Elsewhere - 3
I really ought to get out more! Here is another selection of my rather meagre collection of pictures of preserved steam other than on the Severn Valley. Although not great in number, a fair proportion of Britain is coverd, from Kingswear to Fort William.

 | 15th Mar 1974 to 18th Sep 2008 | Shunters
As with Class 20s, shunters used to have the status of "honorary steam locos" amongst the local spotting fraternity. This didn't mean that they were particularly liked, but were tolerated more than their "main-line" cousins. The majority of pictures here, naturally, depict 08s and 09s but there are one or two other classes represented. Some of the shots were taken at an Open Day held at Harry Needle's yard in Sheffield. I think these prove that spotters are a dedicated bunch since they were taken whilst I was on my way from Walsall to Blackpool for a League 2 (old 3rd division) match! Not exactly the most direct route!

 | 25th Jul 1970 to 3rd Dec 1996 | A Bescot Miscellany - 3
A third selection from my local patch. It's surprising just how much variety there can be at a single location, and here there are 18 different loco classes. There's quite a fair time span here so there are a few pre TOPS examples. As a matter of interest, I am in the process of doing a project to see just which locos have put in an appearance at Bescot. This is purely for my own personal interest and if anyone has records of depot visits or station observations through the years that they are prepared to share with me, please let me know.
|
 | 19th May 1972 to 31st Dec 1995 | Class 47s Get Everywhere - 4
More Brush Type 4s doing what they were designed for. which is just about everything. The usual locations, and again, a couple of pre TOPS examples.
|
 | 4th Jul 1970 to 27th Aug 1995 | Electric Locos - 3
Another selection of electric locos from the archives. Curiously, although first generation diesels were heartily despised by local enthusiasts, the same didn't apply to the WCML electrics. Perhaps in some strange twisted logic, we saw them as the enemy's enemy in that they were partly responsible for the partial demise of the hated EE Type 4s on front line WCML duties (an enemy of my enemy is my friend!). The usual selection here and the usual caveats.
